About the Artist: Bettina Rusher

For me painting is all about the journey. I often begin with loose, colorful, sometimes chaotic layers, embracing spontaneity. Through a slow process of adding, subtracting, and refining, a painting gradually moves toward balance. I try to remain open to the so-called "mistakes" along the way-sometimes they turn into the most interesting parts of the piece. I love building subtle tension through push and pull, and exploring the soft, blurred edges where colors overlap, and earlier marks linger just beneath the surface. Brushwork and mark-making are important to me, too-I experiment with a variety of tools to create mood, movement, and a sense of energy. Some paintings endure trials and setbacks, passing through cycles of building up, tearing down, carving back into the paint, and rebuilding again before finally reaching a feeling of resolve. Intellectually, I strive for raw honesty. If my work begins looking too precious, I change those aspects of the work.

Bettina's art can be found in private and public collections in the Southeastern US, California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Montana, and Germany. In Georgia, she is represented by Nina Cahill Art and IDEA Gallery in Atlanta.

Dawn resides on the beautiful St. Simon's Island, Georgia, with her husband, where she has worked as a full-time artist for the past twenty-five years. Her primary focus has been painting murals and canvas art for many schools, churches, businesses, private homes, etc., across the United States. Working mostly in acrylics and mixed media, Dawn's paintings always reflect a fresh, colorful, and happy palette. In fact, almost everyone who enters her gallery says, "Ahh, it feels so happy here." Her favorite subjects are whimsical florals, mixed abstracts, and coastal themes, and sometimes she mixes in her personal wallpaper and fabric designs. She feels extremely blessed to be able to add a little more beauty to God's amazing world.

Inspired by Heliconia rostrata, also known as "Lobster Claw" or "Parrot's Beak. It's recognized as one of the most beautiful and widely grown species in the Costa Rica. These most colorful flowers last a long time and make an excellent cut flower with the stalks reaching as high as 7 feet.
